Community Concert Band

Ages 16+

A Des Plaines tradition for over 35 years, the Community Concert Band has a wide repertoire that ranges from the classics to great Sousa marches, to contemporary concert band standards, to the latest pop favorites and movie scores. The band is actively seeking members for most sections.

Rehearsals held at Algonquin Middle School

Thursdays, 7:30–9:30p

Registration is required, either for the full season (September-August) or per session- Winter (Jan-Mar), Spring (April-May), Summer (June-Aug), Fall (Sept-Oct), Holiday (Nov-Dec). Each session includes one concert performance.

Al Legutki currently serves as Professor of Music Education and Chair of Visual, Performing, and Media Arts at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. Previously, he taught music education courses at the University of Illinois, and taught middle and high school band in Sullivan School District 300. Al has also enjoyed roles as church choir director and community band director, and has performed in the trumpet section of several community bands, including those in Wheaton, Normal, Champaign, St. Joseph, Danville, Evanston, and Des Plaines. He is a graduate of Illinois State University (B.M.E. and M.M.E.) and the University of Illinois (Ph.D.). His wife, Melissa, is also a trumpet player and music educator, who teaches at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines.
