Park District Supports the Des Plaines Self-Help Closet & Pantry
Every summer, the staff of the Des Plaines Park District grows and harvests vegetables for the Des Plaines Self-Help Closet & Pantry at the park district Greenhouse at the Leisure Center and the Community Garden outside the Oakwood Maintenance Facility.

Pictured are DP Park District gardener extraordinaire Ellie Nitu and Pantry volunteer David Kosar with the first of our weekly deliveries on July 20.

In the coming weeks, we will have tomatoes in all sizes and colors, cucumbers, squash, corn, herbs, and much more. Fresh vegetables are always an important part of what the Pantry provides to its clients, and all of us at the district are pleased to be able to contribute.

In addition to the produce delivered to the Pantry each week, the Community Garden at Oakwood has enough vegetables for our neighbors—please come by and pick some of what we’ve grown. Send us pictures of what you’ve prepared.

Find out more about the Des Plaines Self-Help Closet & Pantry on their website.
